EV charging stations taking off

GasBuddy Blog -- If Americans are ever going to embrace electric vehicles, industry observers agree that our apprehension about finding places to refuel will have to be addressed with unparalleled infrastructure development.

Well, that time might arrive sooner than we expect. According to the Dept. of Energy's 'Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Vehicle Technologies Program' charging stations are taking off across America. The DOE says easy access to charging stations will be key to meeting energy-efficiency goals, and thanks to companies like ChargePoint, finding a charging station is getting more convenient than ever.

We live an a world of instant gratification and instant results so if it means any less convenience than gasoline, it will not make an impact.

"Level 2 chargers typically add 10-20 miles to the range of the electric vehicle per hour of charging" We don't need any of these! If I had an electric car, which I hope to some day, I would not waste hours waiting at a public charger, when I can recharge at home in my own garage while I sleep.

EVs overload our antiquated electrical distribution system and worse yet;about 30% of our electrical power is still generated by burning DIRTY COAL. We need to make the clean switch to natural gas. Compressed Natural Gas could be quickly dispensed at all gas stations. They only need an additional high pressure tank, like for propane and a steady supply.

Just who is going to sit around for hours while each hour charge gets you only 10-20 miles added to your battery. Also article did not say how much it would cost to charge. Compare time as to filling up with a tank of gas in a matter of minutes and getting back on the road for another several hundred miles. Some suckers would go for it.

Build it and they will come. There are 'free' EV charging stations up and down the I-5 corridor (Washington, Oregon, California) and some large cities and stores offer free charging stations as an enticement to get you downtown to spend that money. Walgreens and some large chain food and department stores have charging stations for a fee, usually next to the wheelchair parking areas. Use the web/internet to find the free charging stations, next to the interstates, for free fuel while traveling with an EV or plug in Inbred. What happens to the cost of electricity when there are more and more EV's and plug in Inbreds using more and more electricity to recharge vehicle batteries? NO taxpayer money should be spent for installing charging stations or offering free battery charging, it can happen on its own merit or demand with cash or a credit card. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, vehicle manufactures Produce and the population ‘Drives’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!

They currently cost too much and go only relatively short distances on a charge. They take hours to recharge, and not everyone has a home capable of recharging an EV since most people live in places where they cannot charge their car when they are home. Installing charging stations on the street near apartment buildings is not practical or desirable. They look bad and would only be used by a very small number of people. This country cannot afford these $15 million grants that Obama's Energy Department gives away for these projects. I would also bet that Chargepoint got picked for this grant because of a DemocRAT crony and contributor to the Obama campaign.

Is there a tax deduction for buying an electric vehicle? If people can afford one of these expensive vehicles they are saving on gasoline and it doesn't appear they have money troubles in the first place. Some states are trying to find ways to impose a road use tax on owners of electric vehicles because they aren't paying gas tax that is used to maintain roadways. Oregon is one of these states trying to pass the law. Voters are fighting this too and I agree. Here you have someone trying to do 'the green thing' which will help the state and the economy in the long run and the state turns around and finds a way to tax and punish them for their effort. This serves to discourage others from going green.

Also with the implementation of many more EVs The electric Grids won't handle the load if too many charge at home or on the Grid wherever they are. The Cost to Upgrade the 3 US Electric grids is Astronomical. In addition it will take 20 yrs to be able to upgrade & supply a mere 8% of todays demand by green energy to just the Eastern Grid.
