Despite court ruling, EPA raises biofuel estimate

Fox News.com -- Days after a federal appeals court said the Obama administration is setting overly optimistic production quotas for the struggling biofuels industry, the government issued new standards Thursday that raise production estimates for 2013.

New standards announced by the Environmental Protection Agency require production of 14 million gallons of so-called cellulosic biofuels made from grasses and woody material. That's up from an 8.7 million-gallon requirement in 2012 -- when actual production was near zero.

An oil industry representative said the Obama administration was thumbing its nose at a ruling last week by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. The court threw out the 2012 mandate for cellulosic biofuels, saying it was based on wishful thinking rather than accurate e

Let's cut the E-10 mandate (or higher mandates) and stop using our foods for fuel (along with killing the subsidies to Pig Oil for making and blending the E-crap into our fuel).

No rouge EPA overruling the court system and making the rest of the country do what should NOT be done. Somebody has to stop this ethanol crap in gasoline, Sneeky certainly isn't going to do anything about it. NO FUEL FROM FOOD! NO E-5, E-10, E-15 OR E-100 –> ONLY 'E-0' fuel is Allowed! Vehicle manufactures Produce and the population ‘Drives’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Ethanol and this bill has caused more problems than not. If half as much time and money was spent on developing real alternative fuel solutions, we would probably already be there an well into the implementation of it. Pity.

But we put all our eggs in the CORN basket and this is what it got us. We should have invested in other forms of fuels and we will.... Natural gas will replace more mostly in fleets for now and in city uses.

Better than from corn at least. End the mandate and let ethanol live or die on its own merits.
